Back in Tampa
0Where the intarwebs flow free and fast! Love it. All hail Tampa Airport!
Had a great time. I’ll upload pics once I get home (I left my camera cable at home). Which also meant I could only take a max of 120 pictures… stupid head.
I’m a bit hungry, and will start getting bored soon I think. Our flight doesn’t leave till 2pm.
Update: Now in Washington. No free internets here… so I’m roaming with my Telus EvDO. Almost there…
Great Moses’ beard! We’re moving to Finland!
1For serious.
Maija was accepted into the International Development and Cooperation Master’s program at the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland. So we’ve got under 4 months to pack up our lives and get outa here. We fly out on August 28th, for 2 years or so. 18 months of the course is spent in the class room, and then 6 months onsight at the location here thesis is about, which for us is likely Tanzania!
How crazy is that?
So between now and then, I expect all of you living within visiting distance to conduct a visiting. All of those beyond visiting distance, it doesn’t really matter does it?
I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that. I’m busy at jump rope.
2What the robot! The OmniZero.4 can do all sorts of clever things. See?
Rude awakening
1The firewall alarm in our building went off this morning. It was the first time it has, while we’ve been here.
I supposed it could have been worse; it went off at 6:45am, and it turned out to be nothing.
Maija shakes me out of bed to go and “turn off the alarm.” I return with the report that it’s the building alarm, and she must get dressed. Once dressed we take the stairs down 7 flights and go into the lobby. There are 2 other people who had left their homes, haha. Firemen and women arrived pretty much as soon as we got to the lobby, which is a level of service that I am happy with. The first fire person in the door was a remarkably attractive woman, this commented by my wife first, and then confirmed by me. (That’s the way of things when you’re married.) By the time 4 firepeople had managed to get inside, the 5th had already started returning to the truck, telling everyone it was “OK, someone had burned their breakfast.” Which was exactly the comment I made to the two neighbours down there, it smelled like burnt toast.
Disaster averted. Off to work.
Yes well
2Mike Livingston, I’ll tell you about wasting company time…
But what would I know about that?
Speaking of time, it seems I have none available for anyone. I’ve been thinking wistfully about my blog and new website, that have sat here little touched by my hands, for a while. But I’ve been busy, dear friends! I’m working 3 jobs at the moment, and Christmas season is always a busy one to boot.
But I’m happy to say that all of Maija and my Christmas shopping for one another, is complete. Pretty much taken care of the families too, just a few friends to take of yet. I drove 200km yesterday in pursuit of just the right gifts for my lady.
I haven’t managed to find myself a copy of Gears of War, for under fair market value, yet. I beat the game with the assistance of my brothers – on Sunday – and then returned it to Blockbuster. BUY THAT GAME!
I spoke with Jim Richards tonight, Jim Richards of CFRB fame. The topic was sex and socks, and the fact that 30% of Canadians make love with their socks on. Being Canadian, and being of the making-love pursasion, I felt I was entitely to chime in. No socks for me! I said, however the wife wears em. MacGregor socks are reportedly THE socks of sex. Convenient seeing as I am descended from the MacGregor clan.
It’s true.

I want to go to space
1Anousheh Ansari Blogs from Space
How do you actually leave a comment on that? What can you say to a person who’s been to the space.
Man.
Ms. Ansari is a major backer of the X Prize.
Wah.
2We just got home. It’s 5:47am Helsinki time.
Goodnight.
Helsinki Airport has fast wifi
1I paid 2 Euro for 15 minutes (we’re boarding now anyway), but the internet speed is pretty fast.
I’d like to know how they have their system set up. I connected to the wireless network, and when I tried to browse I was taken to a page informing me that I had to pay. I could enter a prepaid card number, or by via credit card or SMS on your cell phone. I chose credit card and it took to a quick little credit card window, I entered the details, it processed, and then let me browse. Cool stuff.
See you in 9 hours or so…
Mama, I’m coming hoooome
0We’ll be leaving for the airport in about an hour. I had to flex my mighty packing muscles to get everything into our two suitcases… 50€ worth of chocolate alone (plus new shoes, clothes, and other gifts) made for a tighter squeeze than we had coming over. Jeremy, we’re still using one of the suitcases you gave us.
Oh yeah… and 110€ worth of vinyl! That precious cargo has been carefully stashed inside Maija’s carry-on. I spent 3 hours record shopping last night with Juice, a comrad of Tastyfresh.com. Maija drove out to Porvo with her girls and forgot to take the camera, because she was fussing with the iPod. Pitty the forthcoming Zune (which looks pretty sweet) doesn’t have a camera built-in either.
So, we’ve had an awesome time. I’m sad to leave our old and new friends, but we are both look forward to different things at home. Maija looks forward to our kitchen, and cooking herself a meal. I look forward to finally cleaning off our balcony an purchasing an automated machine gun to take care of the pigeons. And yes… I do look forward to going back to work; I’ve been thinking of all sorts of interesting things I’ll change when I get back, particularly security related. You can thank the copy of TQ I brought with me for that.
