Christmas Draweth Nigh

0

What I’d like for Christmas:

1. Snowboard/boots/bindings
2. The Lord of the Rings : The Return of the King Extended Edition DVD
3. How to DJ Right: The Art and Science of Playing Records by Frank Broughton & Bill Brewster.
4. Last Night a DJ Saved My Life: The History of the Disc Jockey by Bill Brewster
5. A pair of Grundorf Turntable cases.

Endings.

I just found out that two of my good friends broke up their relationship on the weekend. I send my sympathies and congratulations.

From my own experience, it’s always been easier to just stay in the relationship than be honest and bring it to a close. Good on you, the Lord will honour you both.

List

0

I discovered this list this morning. It has been deemed to be The Ultimate Man List. Not the traits of the ultimate man, but the ultimate list that a man could put together. Here follows:

- Build a robot costume.
- Make trance music.
- Drink beer.
- Spend money.
- Invest money.
- Find wife.

I have an idea who wrote this list, but let’s be honest men, in our hearts we’ve all written this list before.

And for the record… to those jerks who commented on my last post. Shaun of the Dead is not a dumb movie. Andrew Gazaneo is a dumb movie. And the fact that Christopher Reeve has died actually did sadden me, so the “If that’s the saddest thing that happened this week, you’re doing great” comment is not appreciated.

Stop reading this and go and try and make a better list than the one I just wrote. You can’t. I promise.

Arts and Crafts day

Today is Saturday. On Wednesday Catch the Fire starts, our biggest conference at TACF. You would think, that after 11, 12 (?) years everyone at work would figure out that it’s best to be prepared before the conference begins. Best to buy new computer hardware and video and audio reproduction hardware weeks before the conference, so they can install everything in relative quiet.

But no, still new things arriving. Out of all the departments, it looks like us boys in Maintenance are the most prepared. Trouble is, next week we’ll be working like slaves to make everything work, but them’s the breaks.

Today Maija is continuing her Swim Instructors training course, so I am at home, with the family. I’m planning on going to Home Depot in the next few hours to buy some wood, for an easel I’m making for Maija. I could make that easel today, but let’s look at the facts: I’ve been at work every day since Monday, and making that easel would mean I’d have to go into work today, and I’ll be there tomorrow, and I’ll be there all next week as well as Saturday (conference). So yeah. No making an easel today. I’ll do that next week during the conference slack time. Half of maintenance conference days are spent setting up thousands of chairs in not enough minutes, and the other half is spent sitting around waiting for the chairs to need to be taken down again.

So today… I’m going into Lewiscraft and will begin another project. Muahahaha… beware the bald-headed man who does arts and crafts.

Postponed.

After much deliberation, I’ve decided that Maija and I shan’t go home to New Zealand in January. We’ll plan for around August/September instead, which will be much cheaper, and with the extra time for saving will allow us to do more fun stuff there.

And I’m really not that impressed with the Parachute artist line up. Sorries to Rochelle, cause it would have been mad fun to hang out with you back in the old country. But ahh well.

So this takes a little financial pressure off me. It also frees me up to be able to buy some more records and equipment, without feeling like I was jeopardizing my trip home.

Even better than the real thing

Just rubbed some on from a mail-out sample. I quite like it. Anyone fancying buying me some, it’s available from Sears. Or collect me lots of mail out samples. Hehe.

In other news, I’m working on my first major mix. I’m playing with a really ambient chillaxed kinda sound, which I reckon could be wicked to soak to. For those in the know, tracks like:

Believe by The Traveller & In Motion
Turning Point by Kava
Drum and Faith by Dr Siminz

Should be fun.

Camp is over. Much ministry and excellent fun was had by most, if not all. Can honestly say I didn’t find or hear of too many complainers this year. Last year we had a bunch who refused to play games and just moped about. The only girl who wasn’t enjoying herself went home after 2 days, so no worries.

So now a more peaceful period of my life will hopefully begin. I fairwelled Dad last night, who had taken ill and couldn’t fly out when he was supposed to. He is now better, and left in the wee hours of this morning. He returns Christmas Eve. DJing is over for the next little while, as I’m going to recluse to my room and practice in private. Thought : I wonder if I’m allowed to verb recluse, like I just did. Second thought : I wonder if I can verb verb like I just did. Andrew or Mark, let me know.

Moving quickly along. I’ve been helping Maija-Cakes move into her new place over the last couple of days. Painting and cleaning, and moving furniture. We took in some fine McDonalds burgers for breakfast yesterday noon and on the way back to her place found a garage sale and bought a nice dark bamboo and wicker style bookshelf. It didn’t fit in her car, so the two of us and Bethany carried it back along Sheppard to their house. Hehe, fun times.

Thinking of a Supertones’ song today, Jury Duty. Chorus goes:

‘Cause every single moment whether sleeping or awake
Is your creation
And what you’ve made is good
I don’t always thank you for the rough days and
the hard times in my life
Even though I should

I bought Damien XBox Live for his birthday. He’s playing Crimson Skies now. See you soon Jeremy. ;) What titles do you recommend?

Going to camp on Sunday for a week. Should be excellent fun. Nervous, excited. Kindof numb and feeling odd about saying goodbye to Dad tomorrow, as he leaves while I’m away. Jesus give me peace.

Move to the beat that moves your feet

Wicked weekend. I spun up a frenzy of beats and melodies on Friday night, which was very well received (thank the Lord). Pastor Duncan told me I am no longer Pudd, but have become Dr Pudd. I was amused.

Set:
Zero Gravity – A New Sensorium (Hardy Heller’s Ohral Dub Mix)
Flash – Nobody Scream (Graham Gold Remix)
Airwave – Lady Blue (Original Beat)
Beam – Amun (Original Mix)
Willy J – Play Loud Music (Club Mix)

It was a little shorter than I had anticipated, but was fun nonetheless. People seemed to be feeling it quite a bit by the end, so it was fun dropping the last track in, where every little while this deep voice speaks: “Play… loud… music!”

Saturday saw a bunch of us in Camp Counselor Training for Camp Tsunami ’04. We leave this coming Sunday, so I’m trying to put in as much dj ractuss as I can.

In the eve’ we went to Le Biftheque Steakhouse for an early celebration of Damien’s birthday and a fairwel for my grandparents. I ate so much. It was excellent.

Sunday saw a sleep in and some Xbox, TV and shower. Then to Maija’s for a BBQ and swim, which oddly turned into a gathering of independent video and movie makers.

I’m a real dj now. Ask anyone.

So Friday night went really well. :) I played a short set, maybe 25 minutes. I was cut short by the power being pulled from the soundboard. Hehe, it was actually kindof funny. Andrew had just told me I had 2 or 3 minutes left, so I said, “Alright,” and was getting ready to finish off. I was watching the record that was currently playing (Love Comes Again, by Tiesto) and I knew that I didn’t have much left, and so was getting ready to drop in Arya, by DJ Energy, and the next thing I knew, everything went quiet. My monitor turned off, and the PA went out. I immediately figured, “Oh, I must have run out of record. Ahh well.” Everyone seemed a little bit surprised, cause there wasn’t really any wind-down. Only when Ninja tried to talk into a mic did we realize what had really happened.

Hehe, I knew I had more record left. But yeah, it went well. I was feeling it more than any other time. Technically, it went almost flawlessly. Musically, you’d have to ask someone in the crowd, but I think it was good. Here’s the tracklist for anyone who cares:

The Traveller & In Motion – Believe (Key South Remix)
Mas – Chemic (Distortion Mix)
Vanessa Mae – White Bird (Cosmic Gate Mix)
Evolver – Evolver (Wavestate Vocal Mix)
Organ Donors – Rhythms Divine (Pound Your Senses mix)
Tiesto ft BT – Love Comes Again (Mark Norman remix)

Yesterday I went record shopping and got myself some new tracks. I’m pretty pleased with them. Maija, Bethany, Mike and I went out to The Granite Club last night and dined finely in honour of Mike completing his MCAT (Medical College Admission Test). He now patiently awaits his results… which will come 2 – 3 months from now. Haha, sucker.
