Sony and BMG merger voided

Wowzas…

PARIS, July 13 — In a rare move that plunged music industry giants into confusion, a European Union court today threw out the approval of the two-year-old merger that created Sony BMG, issuing blunt criticism of the regulators who endorsed the union… Shareholders reacted with alarmtoday. Warner’s shares were down $4.68, or 15.7 percent, to $25.08 in late New York trading, while EMI Group’s shares declined 28.25 pence, or 9.2 percent, to close at 277.75 pence, or $5.11, in London… Essentially, the court concluded that the commission had failed to demonstrate the legal standard that a combined Sony BMG would More >

Review: Methodology

The CD release party was a fun fun time. DJ Shagz spun a couple of great sets, mixing funky soul with a bit of hip hop. Methodology played a pretty good show, with two sets, the second featuring some special guests. Most notable was Nick “The Brownman” Ali, who I had not heard of but is evidently one of the best young jazz trumpeters in Toronto. The venue, Revival, was a very cool place with room for about 150, with brick interior walls, a high black ceiling, fabric draping from the ceiling to the walls, and candles burning in recessed windows.

New Music: Methodology

I seriously recomend you check out Methodology. I was just introduced to them, they’re a very cool funk outfit in Toronto. Visit their website here, or visit their myspace here. You can download some tracks and listen to them on their myspace. It’s really worth your while.

So, having done that, I’m sure you want to go and check them out live… right?

Well! They have happen to be throwing a release party on Friday the 27th of January, supported by my good friend DJ Shagz. If you’re a diligent reader you might know that I’ve missed every Shagz related event I’ve More >

The end of copyright?

Some interesting reading can be found over at Gamasutra (The Art and Science of Making Games), regarding copyright and it’s impending doom. I pretty much agree with everything he’s saying. It will be interesting to see what happens to copyright laws over the next few years.

Not the Soviet missile base, the artist.

Listen to anything by him. It’s quite cool. I’d call it progressive alternative synth rock.

Shadow

Been listening to Project 86 lately, since I got my CD back from Maija’s house. They’re newest CD is really good. I mentioned it. I’m especially liking this song…

Find that CD

I’m still on the hunt for Ambient Groove. I talked to Virus, and he said he didn’t make it. So that crosses him off the list. People… 50$, plus the cost of the CD. Come on.

The Quest for Groove

The hunt is on.

If anyone can find me a legitimate copy of the CD Ambient Groove, I will pay you 50$ CAN.

I’ve been trying to find this CD for ages, and have all but given up. I have a burned copy, but the quality is bad, and I want to find the real deal.

The only information I can give you about the CD is that it may (or may not) be a follow up to the CD Ambient Theology, by Virus. Theology was released by NSoul records, so Groove might have been as well, but I’m not 100% convinced that More >

Back to the fray

I highly recommend Songs to Burn Your Bridges By, by Project 86. It’s currently my favourite CD. How ironic.

It was indeed wrong of me to sight a book that I have not read. I retract that statement. I will not go back and edit my previous post, but I now regret saying it. As to my motives for public displays of affection with my girlfriend, she knows I love her. And it’s not because I am affectionate with her publicly. If the reason people are affectionate publicly is to show their Significant Others that they love them, then I know More >
