Mac OS X Leopard

Ars Technica has a typically excellent review of Apple’s latest operating system. (The review is excellent in it’s craftmanship; the quality of the OS you can decide.)

Maija won’t be getting it for a while, solely due to cost and no perceived benefits. She’s still trying to figure out how everything is done in Tiger, a task that I cannot always help with. I honestly do not understand the way you have to do many things in OS X.

Like any editing! Maija has me editing her essays; the following things drive me drive me nucking futs: - the inability to forward More >

Dynamite Festival recap, or Mike’s waiting is over for now

Sorry, I had so much fun in Helsinki that I got a bit sick, and then I had a crazy week of trying to fight a cold and working 16 hour days.

Dynamite Festival was good. Small cosy space with the right amount of people. Made some good connections; the other DJs were all great guys. I had a terrible time with my shoes… but that’s another story. In the end an ambulance assisted me with some bandages to stop the bleeding.

The waiting’s over

Maija and I have both been through a few rough days over the last 2 weeks. We’ve been waiting, with no control, on so many things. It gets tiring having your issues worked on, after all.

Namely we’ve been waiting on her government support money, on our stuff to arrive from Canada, on a refund I’m due from Finnish immigration, and a couple of other things. I’m happy to say they’ve pretty much all sorted themselves out now over this week. Today is an excellent day, as our stuff finally arrived!

So we’re now unpacking things, finding homes for things. We feel More >

EA aquires Bioware, Pandemic

First reaction… I’m nervous. Haven’t we all seen EA put out identical sports title year after year after year? Obviously they do a lot of other games, but I’m still worried about this.

News

I suppose it’s not so different from when Microsoft purchased Bungie, and that seemed to work out in the long run.

Congresspedia and video game laws

Little bit for the politicos.

Congresspedia is a US congress related wiki. They recently launched a project called “Wiki the Vote” where you can read, add, and edit the profiles of all US congressional candidates. I think is absolutely superb.

Senator Leland Yee is a hated figure by many in the video games industry for the bills he’s been pushing to restrict video games sales. Here’s an interesting interview with the man, who seems pretty level headed to me.

Trent hammers the Nail

Nine Inch Nails is no longer on a record label. Following Radiohead, he’ll start distributing his music himself.

Word.

Why did we move to Finland?

It’s just above zero degrees today, and snowing lightly.

LORD HELP ME.

Boom Boom Rocket

Not the Xbox Live Arcade game that I love so much… but the just-about-life-size model X-Wing.

Start here.

Finish in a blaze of glory here.

Ontario Election and Reforendum

Almost there friends. Don’t forget to go out and vote… because I forgot to organise it for myself.

Matthew Neugebauer wrote a nice little piece on MMP. Requires effbook.

Bungie leaving Microsoft

Holy wow. This is everywhere.

Without reading these articles, I’m speculating: 1. Bungie wants to move on from Halo. They’ve had a great time, but they know Microsoft’s tendency to beat a dead horse. So they’re out. 2. Related to point 1, they want to try something new. If you look at Bungie’s history, they used to develop Mac games, then they moved to PC, then they moved to Xbox… at the same time they moved from FPS to Strategy to FPS again. Microsoft might not give them the freedom to try something else. 3. Surely they’d be taking in a More >

Back Now

As I mentioned the other week, I was fed up with my old site. So I made a new one.

As clean and simple as this looks now, you have no idea how difficult it was. Most of the pain was in the fact that WordPress have made some changes to their database structure, so the data in my WordPress/Joomla love-child had to be massaged to fit in here. And that’s no small task when you don’t really know what you’re doing… But here we are. If you’re interested in what I’m using on the new site, head over to About.

New site coming soon

J Puddy.net is going to go to sleep for a few days. It’ll be all shiny and new when it wakes up.
