The CD release party was a fun fun time. DJ Shagz spun a couple of great sets, mixing funky soul with a bit of hip hop. Methodology played a pretty good show, with two sets, the second featuring some special guests. Most notable was Nick “The Brownman” Ali, who I had not heard of but is evidently one of the best young jazz trumpeters in Toronto. The venue, Revival, was a very cool place with room for about 150, with brick interior walls, a high black ceiling, fabric draping from the ceiling to the walls, and candles burning in recessed windows.
I seriously recommend you check out Methodology. They have some serious talent, and I’m excited to see what happens for them next.
In other news, the hunt for my misplaced wedding ring continues apace, and there shall be no prayer night at our place this Thursday, as I shall be joining Edward King to spin records for the School of Ministry graduation ceremony.
I seriously recomend you check out Methodology. I was just introduced to them, they’re a very cool funk outfit in Toronto. Visit their website here, or visit their myspace here. You can download some tracks and listen to them on their myspace. It’s really worth your while.
So, having done that, I’m sure you want to go and check them out live… right?
Well! They have happen to be throwing a release party on Friday the 27th of January, supported by my good friend DJ Shagz. If you’re a diligent reader you might know that I’ve missed every Shagz related event I’ve tried to go to lately, so hopefully third time’s a charm.
What? Methodology CD Release Party w/ DJ Shagz
Where? Revival, 783 College St West, Toronto
When? 9pm-?
Cost? $10 cover, or $20 for cover+CD

I think I can only afford cover x2, but so if my wife doesn’t come along… I might just buy myself the CD. Trust me my fine friends, it’s worth your while.
“Now if you all really like to rock the funky beats, somebody in the the house say “Hell yeah!”"
If you were alarmed upon reading that title, thinking Maija is pregnant, you are correct!
HA! I lied.
But to set the record straight, we have decided that the only thing stopping us from having children now is financial instability. We are both quite eager to put forth a family, so once I get me a serious cash-flowin’ job, and we pay off some debt, then you’ll know what to expect. Incidentally, if you’d particularly like to see us have children now, we figure $50k would be enough to pay off the various banks and international governments that hound us, and get us ready for the youngens.
Anyway. Parent skills! While washing and drying the dishes, my wife doing the former, I the latter, we discussed parent skills. Dishwashing and drying is of course a most venerable one, but we hit upon driving. We both distinctly remember holding our parents in the highest esteem for their driving abilities.
Things like:
- Knowing when the yellow line was double, so you weren’t allowed to pass. How could anyone be so observant?
- Being able to read all the road signs from a useful distance. How could anyone really read that fast?
- Remembering to use the blinker EVERY time they turned a corner.
A veritable treasure trove of skills. Not unlike wife skills. I think this conversation came up because of a video I saw today of a 7 year old driving a pickup truck, getting chased by The Man.
While you’re pondering these things, go and listen to Eighties, by Yilmaz. Simply genius.
