I’m sorry, your account hasn’t been paid

It’s a little frustrating to be told that when you’re trying to find out why no technician has been dispatched to fix your photocopier. But, when the man who writes the cheques (i.e. solves the problems) is a good friend of yours, then things aren’t as rough as they could be.

I didn’t get out of work till 5:30 today, after starting at 8:45. A myriad of problems kept coming up all throughout the day. My Canada Post mail software (for sending parcels) is down for the second day in a row. I spent a lot of time on the phone trying to solve this issue, but don’t have a solution yet. Then the aforementioned money problem. Then a rushed book making job came up.

A friend who used to work at the church and is starting his own publishing firm took a job that turned out to be a little more than he could manage alone. So I said I’d help him out. When I examined our binding strip stock (for making books) however, I found that we were painfully low. A call to the previous Mailroom guy later,I find out that we have to order those supplies from British Columbia. However, after much coercing we will be getting some binding strips tomorrow.

In other news, my old man has started a blog. Hahaha, he hates me calling him that. He’s 43, and I’ve promised him he’ll be a grandad before he turns 50, so then he will be an old man for sure. I’m thoroughly missing him and can’t wait for him to come home at Christmas. That will be one of the best gifts dished out this Christmas.

I’m in a bit of turmoil about how much I should be spending on my dj-ing. There’s a few things that I really want to buy, that would really benefit me, and that I could use for a very long period of time, but I’m saving money for some other plans, and so I just don’t know. I just. Don’t. Know.

If anyone would like to get me 1 or 2 Axis 9 CD Turntables for Christmas, or 2 Grundorf (or similar) flight-style turntable cases, that would be really welcome.

How to Dismantle An Excellent Album

I just finished listening through U2’s latest offering: How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.

First thoughts: Every track on this album is great!
Second thoughts: Except Vertigo… I don’t really like Vertigo so much (ironically), but all the other tracks are brilliant.

According to Time magazine, The Edge is the real star of the album. According to Pudd, The Edge is the real star of the album. Bono’s lyrics are good, and his singing is better (he could sing crap lyrics great), but the musical arrangement of the CD is even better.

Every song – it seems – has a section that stands out as being pure excellence. Unfortunately that also causes all the songs to sound almost too similar to each other, but it’s not too bad.

Bottom line: 100 times better than the last one. Go into Musicworld at Woodbine and get it for 10.99$ including a DVD.

Carpet Burns

I spun what I felt to be a very solid set tonight at Youth Network. I was feeling the nerves before hand, so I retreated to my office and wrapped myself in my hoodie, like a hoodlum, and just sat there. It was quite nice, talking to God, all the dark of my hood.

Then after my set, Andrew G came over and prayed for me, and then Ben Poulsen, and I made a gradual progression to the floor. Once there, Kenny and Tim Fenney (now endowed with a girlfriend) came and soaked me and prophesied over me for quite some time. It was great, because as Andrew was praying for me, I quietly said to myself, “Self, I think it would be fun to have God take me to the floor, and spend the better half of the evening just lying there.” So God, and I, did just that.

Thoroughly enjoyed, and filled, and feeling much better for it. I haven’t had any good carpet time in a very long time. My elbows and back-of-head are upset, but I figure that’s a worthy price to pay.

My wonderful girlfriend is babysitting tonight for some good friends of ours, who happen to be mentoring us as a couple. I feel a little bereft. I am beginning to feel a little bereft every Friday, but I’m learning to be there for God, and for myself, and not just for my friends. You’d think after being in various youth groups for 5 years that I’d have figured that out by now, but no, I haven’t.

Before I retire to bed (it’s 1am, I was playing Halo 2 on Xbox Live), I would like to draw your attention to the caption below the title of this page. I thought that up tonight. Other than the whole Jesus-dieing-for-us-so-we-could-become-one-with-God thing, I suspect this witty phrase may be the coolest thing ever.

And there’s not a lot better to life than witty phrases.

It hurts when I swallow

But just a little.

I was in the middle of spinning a new mix, my first planned-for-CD mix, and I goofed it, so no more dj-ing for tonight. I was bringing in the 6th track (of 13) and the beat-match wasn’t good, and I had brought it in too far to stop, so I just killed the whole thing.

I’m listening to the 26 minutes I have now, and it’s OK.

Maija just called up from downstairs, so I’m out.

Another one bites the dust.

It’s official. Old man Arafat is dead.

He’s been supposedly dead for a week or so, and then officially alive, and then officially “we’re not sure,” and then officially “He’s in a coma,” and now official “His body is being shipped to Egypt.”

Israel sighs a sigh of relief. Palestine screams, “Israel must burn.” I thanked God this morning – during our silence for Remembrance Day – that I live in a pretty much peaceful country. And I asked for mercy for this country for the messed up decisions it makes, like gay marriage, and hating Bush.

Halo 2sday

It’s rather thrilling really. Halo 2 has sold over 1.5 million pre-orders. I’m picking mine up today at lunch.

The only thing that could possibly excite me more today is… 5 month anniversary! w00t. Probably the best Tuesday ever.

Maija,
“Can’t stop this agony;
Cancel my therapy,
Cause I just thought of you, and now I feel fine.”

(Care of Finger Eleven)

I love you Maija.
