“A little lower than the angels”

0

There’s a few scenes in the play that I’m in, in which my character is seen to be reading a book. One of the books that was bought for this purpose is entitled, “In His Maker’s Image,” by Robert Edward Brennan.

Here is an excerpt:

Though man is not a pure spirit, yet his gift of understanding is a spiritual power. Thus, to grasp things in their natures is to grasp them by a form which is freed of the contingencies of matter. And this is what it means to have insight or intelligence. This, moreover, is why we have a share in the life of the angels. If they have minds, then so have we. If they are able to think, then so are we. If they can see things in their essences, then so can we. Still, with all these concessions, our knowledge is far below theirs. On the ladder of intellectual beings, we occupy the lowest rung. Our thoughts, somehow, have the breath of earth upon them, since they have their beginnings in the world of matter; but the thoughts of the angels are born in the matterless world of spirit. Our thoughts, too, must wait on the experience of the senses; but the thoughts of the angels know no such dependency, since bodies and organs and all the trappings of sense are utterly foreign to their natures. As St. Thomas says: “Men are called rational beings because they come to know truth by way of discourse, being forced to follow such a method because of the weakness of their understanding. For, if they had the fullness of intellectual life that the angels possess, then by the very first act by which they grasp a principle, they would see at oncee all that the principle implies, by seeing all that could be reasoned out of it.”

Interesting is it not? It is dedicated to Eugenio Pacelli (better known as Pope Pius XIII) and was published in 1948. Mother picked it up at Value Village for 99 cents.

One of those days.

I’m exhausted. It was a long stupid day.

But… good things have come from today. Yawan (my workmate) who was stranded in China after being refused re-entry to Canada has now got his visa approved, and should be back on Tuesday. This is excellent news, because before today we had no idea if he would even be back at all. Knowing that he should be in next week has calmed me down a lot, because I was having to do his work as well as my own, and had been slated on for some weekends to cover him there as well. And… it will be nice to have Yawan to talk to again. I was getting a little lonely.

Also, I have decided to buy an XBox this weekend. I think this weekend. We’ll see. But that’s my plan. I’d like to buy one of those fancy limited edish green XBoxs, but as far as I can tell, they’re only available in the US. If they go on sale at EB or Futureshop here, someone tell me please.

And I think I’ll get my new PC in 2 weeks. I’m excited.

Weekend

Actually not the weekend, Monday.

Monday.

So on Monday, Rochelle and I went down to the Eaton Centre (Rochelle – a great friend from Atlanta, from NZ, who was here last week). It was pretty fun, we shopped very little and walked very much, but it was enjoyable. Then we hit up Niagara Falls with Maija, Bethany (Beth freshly back from China), Jon Long and Mel. It was a pretty sweet day.

Underdressed Latino Princess, can I get a witness??

“I once was a wee tyke on a small trike, Now I’m graduated from a trike to Excitebike!”

Lines such as these can only be featured in a Reeve Hunter & Sparrow Love Crew song. Hit this to see the video.

Freshwind comes to a close

0

Well Freshwind finished on Saturday night. I’m late, I know. This was definitely my favourite FW yet. The worship bands were all really good, the speakers were all really good, and the “Zeo Party” kicked ass!

The Zeo party was a rave. My good friend Mark and new friend J who are Green Room played from 11:30ish to 1:30ish. It was a huge success with many people staying for the whole thing, and everyone having a good time. Mark and I spent time praying before he went up, that this would spark a new form of worship here in Canada for many people. Encouragement came when an older lady (50s) got up on the stage about 20 minutes into the Zeo and said she had had a vision of God breaking bread open and steam rising from it. She said when she was watching everyone dance, and the smoke up onstage, she realized that this was what the vision was about, and that with everyone’s dancing (giving off steam) God was breaking open new things. Very exciting!

I got to mix sound for the entire party, so that was also very fun. I had it cranked so loud, oh it was great. 112 decibels at the loudest point. Anyway, it was awesome, and I’m very excited for what the future will bring in regards to DJing.

In other news…

…Freshwind starts today!!

Excellent fun. Unfortunately my turntables have not yet arrived so we have had to rent some for this particular event, but it’s alright. I’m quite excited for this conference. They rented a big lighting rig with a huge black curtain to cover up our rather gaudy TV set backdrop – very cool.

So lots of awesome worship is coming up, good teaching hopefully, and certainly lots of stinky sweaty teenagers.

Great.

Straight from the tap

How many glasses of water do they stay you’re supposed to drink a day? Like 6? or 8? Up until the age of 12 I never drank much water, and then for no apparent reason I started. Good habit I say.

So I might even call myself a connoisseur of waters. Personally, I think tap water raises the roof. When it comes to the bottle – Dasani. Hands down. But my friends, I must admit I have never been a huge fan of filtered water, Britter water, distilled water, whatever you want to call it.

Vindication!

So there. Go back to the tap darlings. Interesting thought – Dasani says it is “remineralized water.” Perhaps it has been distilled and then had it’s minerals added back in…

I love American cities

0

Actually, I do like American cities. Something about them, I’m not sure what, but I have this sort of fun touristy (Main Street USA – Disneyland) sort of feel. Anyway… Go Cleveland!

Take the quiz: “Which American City Are You?”

Cleveland
You are blue collar and Rock n Roll. You Work hard and party harder.

I like the sound of “Rock n Roll.” I also like the sound of Rock n Roll! Yeah!! Speaking of partying, I might have one at the end of the month – I’ll keep you posted.
